Today we were talking mainly about future hi-tech stuff and ethics (morals, goods & bads).

I don't really have many thoughts on ethics... Over consequentialism and duty-based ethics, I tend to believe a mixture of both. Among my past and present classmates and schoolmates there is a popular (though unscientific) belief concerning "RP" (Ren Pin, literally "Characters" or "Morals"). The theory claims that, everyone has some RP. If one does something good or is harmed or "used as a tool", the guy gains RP, while he loses some for doing bad things for his own benefits. And RP has a tendency to get back to some "balance" value, while the RP lost/gained affects one's acquirements/losses and luck. Thus one is likely to be lucky if his RP value is high (the extra RP tends to  leave him, bringing about good luck).

This (crazy XD) "RP theory" seems like a mixture of both theories. Take as an example the action of breaking rules while bringing benefits and happiness to many people, its "rule-breaking" part accounts for some loss in RP, and the "happiness" part causes a gain in the RP. In this way, whether an action is good or bad can be simply described by the change of RP. This theory, like the "exotic matter of minds in the fourth dimension" theory, is absolutely unscientific, but explains a lot of things XD  We aren't taking these serious but it seems like something interesting to consider about apart from dominant theories in formal philosophy.

As for future high technology, it's inspiring and exciting! I actually hadn't watch a lot Star Wars stuff but I couldn't help thinking about the novel "The Three Body Triology"! Cross-civilization conflicts, light-speed spaceships... However I still believe hi-tech is leading us to a utopia rather than a dystopia. As I had written on the "I am..." paper, I am in the belief that the ultimate goal of everything, including technology, is happiness and enjoyment. Perhaps that depends on the creators of tech. If every technology developer is willing to enhance everything they touch, the world is sure to get closer and closer to a utopia.

Let's hope it's really this case  o(^▽^)o
